Thanksgiving 2010

November 25, 2010 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

From my reading this morning:

Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,

The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!”
(Psalm 50:14, 23 ESV)

Being grateful. Thanking God in all things.

Today, I am grateful for daughter Jennifer and MK daughter Keli who are spending this U.S. Thanksgiving holiday with us.

Living a life of gratitude.

God’s gift of technology

Natalie's dedication

Kay and I are attending church in Dallas, Texas. But we’re sitting on our couch in Orlando, Florida as I write this. Participating in church over the internet is not so amazing any more. People rarely think twice about it.

But today is our granddaughter N’s dedication day.

And through God’s gift of technologies like the internet and Skype, we’re participating in dedicating our little N to God.

Jonathan and Meredith’s church doesn’t broadcast their service. It’s a small church. But through God’s gift to his church today, it only takes a laptop computer, an internet connection, Skype and a webcam (fortunately, a high-definition webcam).

We are using some of God’s communication technology gifts to lead people into a personal relationship with Jesus, to help train and grow strong followers, and providing many opportunities for believers to engage in helping others know Jesus. I’ll write more in other posts.

Now, it’s back to dedicating N, committing to helping her grow up as one of God’s beautiful princesses.

Mowing the lawn as a Myers-Briggs exercise

September 19, 2009 by Keith Seabourn 2 Comments

Lawn mowing is the ultimate introvert exercise. No one interrupts you (they might be asked to take a few rounds). No talking to anyone.

As I mowed today and philosophized this new realization, I grew in my understanding. I realized that lawn mowing is the ultimate exercise for Myers-Briggs INTJs. Not only am I totally alone in my I-ness, lawn mowing doesn’t take much thought. That leaves an NT with a free mind to soar with other ideas. I do some really good thinking while mowing the lawn.

Myers-Briggs INTJ

Then there is the J-judging. I’ve never really understood that, but I read this today:

Key words for judging: structured • decided • organized • scheduled

People who have a preference for judging use their preferred judging function (whether it is thinking or feeling) in their outer life. What this often looks like is that they prefer a planned or orderly way of life, like to have things settled and organized, feel more comfortable when decisions are made, and like to bring life under control to the degree that it is possible.

Now I get it. I just thought everybody was this way. Who doesn’t want a planned life, an orderly life, having things settled, feeling more comfortable when decisions are made? It’s the only way to live!

And lawn mowing is a great time to get things settled, planning out next steps, deciding.

Ahh, what a great INTJ experience. I think I’ll mow my neighbor’s lawn today also!
