An Appointment with the Lord

April 26, 2011 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

Prayer BoardToday, Kay and I have an appointment with the Lord.

“Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.” Corrie ten Boom

Today, Kay and I are engaging in the real action.

“Prayer is where the action is.” John Wesley

Today, Kay and I are engaging in the greater work.

“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”  Oswald Chambers.

“I have seen many work without praying, though I have never seen any good come out of it; but I have never seen a person pray without working.”  James Hudson Taylor

Today, Kay and I join thousands of Campus Crusade for Christ staff around the world keeping an appointment with God to engage in the real action and the greater work. Today is our Worldwide Day of Prayer.

Worldwide Day of Prayer October 2010

October 5, 2010 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

Kay and I returned last night from 20 days on the road in Thailand. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, including rich time with kids and grandkids. Daughter-in-love M wrote a very sweet blog post about the Departure Gate.

Being home is good too. It was great to sleep in my own bed. It’s great to be sitting in my favorite chair, with my favorite cup of coffee, and enjoying the stillness of my house. It’s 5am and my body doesn’t know which timezone it’s in, but if I’m going to be awake at 5 am, this is the place: my chair in my house with my coffee!

Today is a special day in the life of Campus Crusade for Christ staff. Today, we join around the world in active, intentional, dedicated prayer. Running through my head this morning:

Worship in Thailand last weekFrom the rising of the sun
To the going down of the same
The Lord’s name
Is to be praised.
Praise ye the Lord
Praise Him all ye servants of the Lord
Praise the name of the Lord
Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time forth and forever more

This is a photo from a worship time in Thailand last week with our local Thai staff leading us. Scenes like this will be happening around the world today from the rising of the sun, to going down of the same. The Lord’s name will be praised.

Kay and I spending this special day in prayer.

Extreme dependence on God

April 27, 2010 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

Extreme dependence on God.

As we go about launching movements of evangelism and discipleship, we must learn to rely more and more on His power rather than our own. For us the norm needs to be taking faith risks and asking God in faith, “What do You want us to believe You for now?” The alternative is simply go after whatever we imagine we can accomplish in our own efforts. (Steve Douglass, President, Campus Crusade for Christ)

Today is a special day. Today, thousands in the family of Campus Crusade for Christ will gather around the world. We will set aside our normal activities and spend the day before the Lord. We have the privilege of doing this corporately, together worldwide, twice each year.

Together, we will be asking God for more. More people to come to know him. More of His glory to shine like the stars on a cloudless night. More of his justice for the oppressed. More laborers for the harvest fields.

Steve also said, “God is calling us to a renewed posture of extreme dependence on Him and His Word.”

Today, I am asking God in faith, “What do You want me to believe You for now?”

Prayer is a part of our strategy

May 2, 2009 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

You can pray for the Global Technology Office. We are publishing a prayer calendar and invite anyone to become a part of helping implement digital strategies to increase fruitfulness in ministry, to connect and engage laborers in movements around the world, and to develop operational capacity to sustain the mission. Worldwide Day of Prayer

April 28, 2009 by Keith Seabourn Leave a Comment

John Piper says that we cannot know what prayer is for, until we understand that life is war.

He explains further:

Life is war. That’s not all it is. But it is always that. Our weakness in prayer is owing largely to our neglect of this truth. Prayer is primarily a wartime walkie-talkie for the mission of the church as it advances against the powers of darkness and unbelief. It is not surprising that prayer malfunctions when we try to make it a domestic intercom to call upstairs for more comforts in the den. (John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad, page 45).

I’ve been thinking about Piper’s words as we have prepared for today. The entire staff and associates of Campus Crusade will be gathering at many scattered sites for a Worldwide Day of Prayer.

Kay and I always look to this time. The theme for this Day of Prayer is “Our Strength and Our Shield”.

Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
And I will give thanks to him in song.

Another portion of Scripture on this theme is found in Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength,
An ever-present help in trouble.

He is our strength and our shield, our refuge and our strength.

Because life is war, and prayer is our wartime walkie-talkie.
